If you are going into a rehab facility or you are helping a friend or family member into one, you’re going to have a lot of questions. One of the most common ones to ask is whether you should select a 30, 60, or 90-day drug treatment center program.

There are a lot of decisions to be made in the quest for recovery and while most rehab programs range between 28 and 90 days you have to decide the best one for you. There are plenty of different programs out there to choose from, and there are also longer residential programs.

Why Are There 30, 60, And 90-Day Programs?

It’s a good question to ask; you might be worrying that one program can offer more than another. The thing is, it’s less about what programs can offer and more about your time. Rehab facilities understand that your time is precious and not everyone can accommodate 60 or 90-day treatment options.

The one thing to consider here, though, is that the longer the treatment program the better. Time offers an opportunity, and it’s the chance you need to heal. It’s also your chance to understand and learn about yourself, letting go of what was and looking forward to what could be.

You might comprehend commitments such as work and kids as big deals in life but you are also important and taking the time to get treatment for addiction is vital for your future.

For some clients, 30 days is not enough to detach from triggers and reach their goals. Clients who go home at the 30-day point may experience triggers that lead to a complete relapse and this can be very dangerous. Longer treatment is the ideal option even when it’s not the easiest option to complete. The choice of how long you stay in rehab all depends on factors such as:

  • Insurance coverage
  • Referring physician’s opinion
  • Issues that surface during treatment

No matter what you choose, there are studies out there that prove the longer you stay in treatment, the better. Some of the various benefits of long-term treatment include:

  • A better perspective on their recovery
  • Practice skills needed in recovery
  • Develop a positive support network
  • Better deal with social and family issues that have occurred as a result of substance abuse
  • Develop more self-confidence

You can then have a crafted program for your recovery that is suited for you in the long term. Any individual that enters a treatment program for drugs and alcohol abuse will find that a treatment program that offers longer terms will be more effective on their mental and physical well-being. Let’s look at what each program entails:

30 Day Programs

This is a common admission for addicts in the early stages of admitting their issues and recovering. These include an intake evaluation and a carefully planned treatment plan, and withdrawal management therapy in both individual and group settings, and aftercare plans, too!

The length of time that clients are involved in this program depends on their needs but it also may not be sufficient for some clients. For those with more complex issues or severe substance abuse issues, it may not be long enough.

60 Day Programs

These often have the same features as the 30-day program but they have added time devoted to the process. The features of planning and support are often the same and they may have extensive goals with complicated withdrawal issues a consideration.

Patients are often better off with a 60-day program as they can spend time on their recovery, get some perspective on their addiction issues and practice their recovery skills.

90 Day Programs

These are the better option for all patients who suffer from addiction because they are going to get longer treatment, and longer attention and they will have better success with their sobriety. Longer stays in a treatment and recovery program will lead to better detoxification and lower levels of relapse, too.
